This year Calhoun ISD and  Jackson County ISD, will be offering 3 distinct Technology in Learning courses designed to help educators learn ways to implement technology in their classroom right away.

Developing with Technology for Learning
October - November 2014

Developing with Technology for Learning is a course designed to help educators explore and begin applying web tools that enable them to develop their ability to communicate with students and parents with a web presence. 

This is a blended course - a majority of the work will be completed online, along with a mandatory face-to-face session that occurs after the course has started. 

Important Course Dates -
  • Course Start Date: October 15
  • Face-to-Face: 4:15-6:45 October 20
  • Course End Date: November 18

Google Mail - Gmail Shortcuts

It has been over 5 years since I posted about keyboard shortcuts to Google Mail, so I think it is time again!  Here's the repost with some updates, and a few of my favorite shortcuts that I think save me lots of time cumulatively! Some people have expressed frustration to me because "things just happen" while they are in their email.  Typically, as we tend to be short of possessed devices, it is because they have unintentionally used one or more of the built in email shortcuts. So, how do you know the shortcuts?  And, how can you turn them off (or on)? Google Forms - Copy Summary Graph/Diagram to Use Elsewhere

If you are looking at the summary view of the results for some Form data you have collected, you can  copy a chart or diagram that you want to use elsewhere very easily and quickly. Simply hover over the chart or diagram, and a copy icon will appear in the upper right corner of it.  Click on that - You will get a message that it has been copied to to the clipboard in the lower left corner -  You can then paste it into the location you want to use it.  Here's an example in a G Doc -  I also pasted it into: Slides, an email, a Sites webpage, in my Blogger.  A nice feature addition that saves time from taking screenshots!

Google Calendar - How to Share Your Calendar Via Link

Google Calendar provides a couple ways you can share your calendar.  The first way you will see below provides a link that lets another person subscribe to your calendar.  They will need to be logged into their Google account, and it will display YOUR calendar along with their own. (Personally, I find this method the best for adding my kids' and husband's events so I see our families events all in one calendar.)  The second method displays your calendar in a browser window.  This is probably the preferred Teacher method for sharing with parents. Google Calendar - How to Email Event Invitees

There are times you want to email those you have invited to an event.  Or even times you want to email SOME of those you have invited.  Instead of doing this in mail, you have the ability to do it right within the event on your calendar.  It's quick, flexible, and can save you a lot of time, so is worth checking out if you haven't used it before! (Here is a video on How to Email Guests that are Invited to an Event. ) When in your Google Calendar: Click on the event you wish to email out from -  Click on the Mail icon in the upper right of the event -  A window pops up for you to craft your email in.
