Just in time for the new school year, MeL and Gale have compiled the “ Fake News Frenzy: A Guide to Resources for Librarians and Teachers ." Resources include links to articles, videos, lesson plans, games, websites, and more. There are even recommended books with a link to  MeLCat  for each! Another great resource for combating fake news here in Michigan is Gale’s  Opposing Viewpoints in Context  (OViC). The second of three Library 2017 mini-conferences: "Digital Literacy & Fake News," will be held online (and for free) on Thursday, June 1st , from 3:00 - 6:00 pm EDT . This event is being organized in partnership with futurist Bryan Alexander, who will serve as moderator for the opening panel and as the closing keynote speaker. Invited panelists and presenters will look deeply at the foundational relationship of libraries and librarians to media, information, and digital literacy. Stony Brook University's School of Journalism has some great free resources for teachers in the Digital Resource Center around the topic of News Literacy. There is a " Let's Get Started " area with shared activity/lesson ideas that can be used. There are also 14 lesson plans that can be used within a course or integrated into your own curriculum - "The full News Literacy course , developed at Stony Brook University, organizes the material into 8 concepts that are spread amongst our 14 week course that take students from the first information revolution of Johannes Gutenberg's printing press to the Digital Age of Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook.
