Google Calendar - How to Share Your Calendar Via Link

Image
Google Calendar provides a couple ways you can share your calendar.  The first way you will see below provides a link that lets another person subscribe to your calendar.  They will need to be logged into their Google account, and it will display YOUR calendar along with their own. (Personally, I find this method the best for adding my kids' and husband's events so I see our families events all in one calendar.)  The second method displays your calendar in a browser window.  This is probably the preferred Teacher method for sharing with parents. (Here is a video on How to Share Your Calendar Via a Link .) When in your Google Calendar: Click on the Options menu (stacked dots) for the calendar you want to share - Select Settings and sharing - Click on Access permissions on the left side - Click on the Get shareable link - Note that who can see the calendar with this link depends on the access permissions you have set right above.  For example...

Google Calendar - Updated Individual Calendar Settings

Image
Along with a new look, the settings are a bit different in Calendars now.  Not only do they look a bit different, but they are reorganized also.  Here's a brief overview of what can be found where now.   First, when you right-click on a calendar (or click the arrow to the right of a calendar), the menu is simplified from what it was previously.  There are now only 3 options (left side of picture below) -  Display this only Hide from list Settings & Sharing When you select Settings & Sharing for a calendar, another list appears directly below that calendar - That list matches each section of the settings that appear in the content window (where the calendar normally displays) - The following sections and corresponding information can be found in the settings above: Calendar settings : the calendar name, description, time zone and (if applicable) organization the calendar belongs to. Auto-accept invitations: set if invitation...

Google Classroom - Add "Class Materials"

Image
Many of you may have missed a new feature in Google Classroom - the ability to have an item (or some items) available to students all the time OUTSIDE the Stream.  This can be very handy for a course syllabus or other item you want students to easily reference throughout the course. To add items to this area, you need to go to the About section of your Class - Once you are there, look for a section at the bottom of the page that says Add class materials -  When you click on that area, it changes so you can add the following: 1 - a Title for the section 2 - icons showing you want you can add here 3 - the box to Post it to your current class While there are 4 icons of types of items that can be added, it is technically 3.  1. You can link to items that are in your Google Drive.  (If you select the Attach icon, it actually loads the item to your Google Drive and attaches it the same way as the Drive icon.) 2. Add a general URL link - note that at this...

Google email - Link to Email in Calendar

Image
There are many times that I don't have time to deal with an email, but want to make sure that I don't forget about it.  The simplest way to do this is by the Create Event option (which I talked about a couple weeks ago).  However, there are times this is a pain if there are lots of people on the email chain whom I really don't want to go through and delete as possible guests. So here is another method that will work-  Each email has a unique URL - you can highlight & copy that URL to use elsewhere. I often paste it into a new event so I can refer back to it...and I then have also scheduled time to address the issue/email since it is added to my calendar.  This works even if the email is archived, so you can archive the email once you have put the URL into an event!  (Just don't trash those email.) If you have email notifications set up on the event, the URL appears as an active hyperlink in the notification so you can quickly get to the ema...
