The Michigan Department of Education has partnered with EduPaths, Michigan’s free online professional development portal for educators, and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe) to bring four online courses centered around student data privacy to Michigan Educators. The courses cover the necessary information all educators must know in order to keep student data safe in an increasingly digital learning environment, including educators’ legal requirements related to student data privacy. The iKeepSafe courses are 30 minutes each and self-paced, allowing educators to enroll and complete the courses at a convenient time and place. SCECHs are available for the courses at no cost through EduPaths. From the Library of Michigan: "The Michigan Department of Education and the Library of Michigan are pleased to announce the 2017 Michigan Notable Books, 20 books celebrating Michigan people, places, and events. For more than 10 years the Library has been proud to sponsor this program, doing our part to help build a culture of reading here in Michigan."  Check out this year's selection here .  There are many books worth checking out!  If you want more, the site lists all the books selected each year from 1996 to this year. 

MDE in collaboration with MeL has put together some sample activities to "encourage reading month activities that go beyond reading contests and encourages purposeful reading for all Michiganders."  Check out this site which has some sample activities that tie into Michigan Electronic Library databases - resources that available for FREE to all Michigan educators and students.

From the Michigan Department of Education - Each fall, Project Tomorrow, an internationally recognized education nonprofit organization, facilitates the  Speak Up Research Project  – and we would like to invite you to learn more about how your school and district can participate this year.   Speak Up 2015 is the best way for education leaders to learn about the views and ideas of K-12 students, parents and teachers regarding digital learning, workplace skill development, STEM education and professional development.  It is easy to participate in Speak Up – there are no fees or costs – everything is 100% free.  Last year over 521,000 K-12 students, parents and educators completed a Speak Up survey.  And 8,200 schools and 2,600 districts received free reports with their local data plus national findings for comparatives.
