Google Classroom - Add a Question-type assignment

The Question type assignment can be a very useful tool within Classroom. It can be used:

  • as an entrance or exit ticket,
  • to do a homework check,
  • gather information about your class (or data to use, even)
  • to divide your students into groups by answer
It is an easy item to add a question to your Classwork area.

Within the Classroom, click Classwork at the top -

Click on the Create button -

Select Question -

There are many options in the window that opens, several (1-2, 5-7, 9) are options for all assignments, while others (3-4, 8) are only options for a question -

  1. Select with Class (or classes) this will be posted to
  2. Select which students will see this (this can only be used if you are assigning it to one Classroom)
  3. Your Question to post
  4. Instructions for the question (this is optional)
  5. Points assigned (this can be none)
  6. Due date (optional)
  7. Topic (optional)
  8. Question type & information - more info below
  9. Files/links to include with the question for students to acces
There are 2 types of questions:
  • Multiple choice, which allows you to decide if students can see a summary of responses, and has you to type in the options that are available to students

  • Short answer, which allows you to set if students can reply to each other (see each other's answer) and decide if students can edit their answer

When you have put all the information in, you have the option to Ask, which posts it immediately, Schedule it for a future time/date or save it as a draft
